Nailed It!

For a number of women, foregoing manicures has been a deliberate decision during the pandemic. I’m one of them.

I had regular manicures, including the long-lasting shellac and gel polishes, for over 30 years as part of my professional “look.”

Then, about a year ago, I began to have an allergic reaction to harsh gel polish remover just as salons were shutting down due to the pandemic.

I never thought twice about letting my hair grow gray, so why did I perpetuate a youthful (and costly) artifice with nails?

Now I question why it took so long for me to recognize that the cost—to nails and pocketbook—are not worth it.  And not necessary.

What does this say about my attitude toward aging?  Acceptance and awareness that these “beauty rituals” aren’t as important as we believed.  Digging deeper has been revealing and rewarding.

It’s a welcome discovery that during our enforced isolation, we have the opportunity to find what really matters.  Ourselves.
